Origins and foundations

Throughout history, different spiritual traditions have pointed to the same essential intuition: reality is one, even though it is experienced as fragmented.

The Law of One is rooted in this deep understanding of existence, offering a coherent framework for understanding consciousness, spiritual evolution, and the purpose of the human being from a unifying perspective.

This text introduces the origin of this teaching, the context in which it was received, and the fundamental principles that sustain it, which will be developed in greater depth in the following publications.

Origin of the Law of One material

The Law of One is a body of teachings transmitted through a channeling process carried out in the early 1980s in the United States.

These channelings resulted in a series of books known as The Law of One or Ra Material, structured in a question-and-answer format, with a technical, precise, and remarkably consistent language over time.

The material does not present itself as a doctrine or as an absolute truth, but as information offered to be discerned, accepted, or rejected freely by each reader.

The people involved in the channeling process

The process was carried out by a small group of individuals committed to the study of consciousness:

Don Elkins, researcher and primary questioner
Carla Rueckert, main channel during the sessions
Jim McCarty, responsible for technical support and documentation

The group worked under carefully maintained conditions, prioritizing clarity, ethics, and neutrality in the process, and always upholding the importance of free will as a central principle.

Who or what is Ra?

In the material, the source identifying itself as Ra is described as a social memory complex—a collective consciousness that has reached a high degree of spiritual evolution.

Ra is not presented as a deity or an authority to be worshipped, but as a source of information sharing its understanding of unity, the evolution of consciousness, and the laws governing experience in the universe.

The name “Ra” symbolically refers to Egyptian tradition, although the material itself clarifies that this identification is more of a historical-symbolic link than a religious identity.

Foundations of the Law of One teaching

The unity of all creation

The central principle is simple and profound:
everything that exists is an expression of a single infinite consciousness.

There is no real separation between creator and creation, between the individual and the whole. Diversity is an experience within unity.

Consciousness as the axis of evolution

Existence is understood as a process of the evolution of consciousness, through different levels or densities of experience.

Each stage offers opportunities for learning, polarization, and the remembrance of unity.

Free will

Free will is a fundamental principle.
Nothing can be imposed—not even truth.

Each being chooses their pace, their path, and their way of learning, and all information must be offered, never forced.

Polarity: service to others and service to self

Conscious evolution unfolds around two main orientations:

service to others, based on cooperation and openness
service to self, based on control and separation

Both are part of the evolutionary process, although they lead to very different experiences of unity.

Love and wisdom

The teaching emphasizes the need to balance love (openness, compassion) and wisdom (discernment, clarity).

An imbalance between the two creates distortions; their integration allows for a harmonious evolution of consciousness.

A teaching to be explored, not believed

The Law of One does not ask for faith or adherence.
It invites conscious exploration, honest questioning, and personal integration.

Nothing presented is meant to replace direct experience, but to accompany it.

Closing

This first approach offers only a general framework of the Law of One.
In the following publications, its concepts, applications, and resonances with other spiritual traditions and with everyday experience will be explored in greater depth.

Like any teaching oriented toward consciousness, its value lies not in the information itself, but in how it resonates and is lived.

✨ Editorial note

This material is presented with respect and discernment. It does not seek to impose a vision, but to offer a possible map for those who feel an affinity with a unified understanding of existence.
